Ron Olsen, a former deputy chief of the Prospect Heights Fire District and the father of Battalion Chief Scott Olsen, passed away on Wednesday, November 8. He was 79 years old.
Ron began his career with the PHFD in 1962 and served for over two decades before retiring as a deputy chief in 1988. After retiring, he continued to serve the district part-time as a fire inspector, eventually retiring for a second time in 2015. His dedication to public safety never wavered, even after he left active duty.

Throughout his career, Ron played an important role in the development of the fire station. In the early 1970s, he was heavily involved in the masonry work during the first expansion of the original station. Decades later, in the 2000s, he contributed his expertise to major masonry repairs, helping the district save both time and money.
Ron’s service to the Prospect Heights Fire District and its residents was nothing short of remarkable. His contributions were deeply valued, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
