Seven thousand-meter UV laser Raman spectrometer successfully passed the sea test

Recently, 7-meter-deep deep-sea in situ exploration UV laser Raman spectroscopy participated in the R & D of 7000-MW sea trial in the Mariana Trench by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academy of Sciences, CAS Li Fan, Fellow Fan Fengtao, and Huang Baokun, senior engineers.

The spectrometer is the first UV laser Raman spectrometer in the world for deep sea exploration. It has also created the highest deep sea detection record (7449 meters) for Raman spectroscopy. The successful development of this instrument will enhance our capability to detect deep-sea deposits, energy resources (gas hydrates), carbon cycling and climate change, and deep-sea biological information.

Abeille expeditionary team of Chinese Academy of Sciences went to the Mariana Trench waters to carry out scientific and technological tasks such as "Research and Research on Scientific and Technological Issues of the Seabed Deep in the Abyss" and "Key Deep-sea Key Technologies and Equipment" of the State Key Research and Development Program. In-situ experiments, Wanquan and Tianya abyss landers have successfully tested and applied a series of deep-sea equipment independently developed in China, including the successful application of the spectrometer.

The UV laser Raman spectrometer for deep sea exploration is the most advanced Raman spectrometer at home and abroad. It is also the first deep-sea in situ Raman spectrometer with UV laser as the excitation spectrum at home and abroad. Instrument R & D Based on years of research and development experience and academic accumulation of the UV Raman spectrometer (National Natural Science Award, 2011, the second prize of the State Technological Invention, 1997) by Li Can team further improves the sensitivity of detection, especially the Conventional Raman spectroscopy is susceptible to the shortcomings of marine microorganisms and the interference of organic fluorescence. In addition, under deep sea conditions, the spectrometer faces extreme conditions of high pressure (about 700 atmospheres) and landing shocks, placing stringent requirements on the performance of the spectrometer. The team successfully developed UV Raman spectroscopy instruments that meet the extreme conditions of the deep ocean through scientific design, iterative verification, folding mirrors, fiber optic connections, and coaxial mirrors.

The project is a project of "Research and Research on Scientific and Technological Issues in the Seabed Deeps of the Seabed" of the Strategic B-type Special Project of the CAS. Led by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS and co-operation with Sanya Deep Ocean, CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics is mainly responsible for the research and development of spectroscopic instruments. Mainly responsible for deep sea applications of the instrument. Through concerted efforts, the two have made technological breakthroughs and explored a new road for scientific and technological cooperation in the future, fully embodying the unique group superiority of CAS in deep-sea science and technology.
