The *Daily Herald* has published a follow-up story about the recent theft of an ambulance from Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The incident, which occurred last week, has sparked widespread concern and media attention.
According to police reports, the theft took place under the cover of night. Samantha Sligar managed to sneak out of the hospital and into the driver's seat of an idling, unlocked ambulance. At around 4 a.m. on Friday, two paramedics had just brought a patient into the emergency room and were restocking their supplies when they realized ambulance No. 4 was missing.
Two hours later, over 150 miles away, the stolen ambulance was found disabled on Interstate 57 near Rantoul, Illinois. Sligar was arrested by local police, who said she claimed she was heading to her job at a St. Louis department store. She also mentioned considering a trip to Marion, Illinois, and told officers that both her car and wallet had been stolen.
What happened in between was nothing short of chaotic. Authorities reported that the paramedics noticed the missing ambulance within 20 minutes. An alert was issued, and Rolling Meadows police were the first to spot it. They followed the vehicle as it made its way onto eastbound I-90. Multiple departments joined the pursuit, with squad cars chasing the ambulance along the highway.
At 4:40 a.m., an emergency alert was issued. Police in Matteson spotted the ambulance heading south on I-57 but were ignored when ordered to pull over. Later, both Manteno police and Kankakee County officers tried to stop the vehicle, which was reportedly speeding recklessly, flashing lights and blaring sirens. At one point, Sligar evaded Illinois State Police at 80 mph while still using the ambulance’s emergency equipment.
As the ambulance approached the Ford/Champaign county line, authorities had to take action. However, the troopers assigned to intercept the vehicle were instead dealing with a major accident involving several semitrailers. Traffic was completely backed up behind the crash.
In response, Rantoul police deployed spike strips on the southbound lanes of I-57. These devices puncture tires gradually to prevent rollovers. The ambulance’s front left tire was shredded, but Sligar continued driving for a short time before finally coming to a stop near milepost 250. She was taken into custody without any issues and was held at the Rantoul police station.
A photo of the ambulance, now back in service, shows it being used at a fire scene in Long Grove on Monday night. The incident has raised serious questions about security at the hospital and the risks involved in such a high-speed chase. Local officials are now reviewing protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Vibrating Fluid Bed Dryer is widely used for operation of drying, cooling powder and granule materials.
Material is fed into the machine from feeding inlet, and moves forward continuously along with the level of fluid bed under the action of vibration force. Hot air passes through fluid bed and carries out heat exchanging with damp material. Then the damp air is exhausted out by exhaust fan, some fine powder is collected by cyclone separator and dust remover, and dried product is discharged from discharging outlet.
