The Newport Township Fire Department was dispatched at 3:30 PM on Thursday for a house fire located at 38591 Arbor Court in Wadsworth. Upon arrival, the first responding units found flames engulfing a large two- and three-story home situated at the end of a dead-end street within a subdivision that lacked fire hydrants. The initial response quickly escalated to a Box Alarm as crews initiated an interior attack, supported by one of Newport’s pumper/tankers.
As the fire spread rapidly, the decision was made to abandon the interior operation. Within minutes, the alarm was upgraded to a second alarm, then a third, and eventually a fourth alarm, which brought additional resources from across Lake County and neighboring Kenosha County in Wisconsin.
To support the firefighting efforts, an extensive tanker shuttle system was established. Three portable water tanks were positioned approximately 2,000 feet away from the fire building, at the intersection of Cashmere Road and Crabapple Drive. At least 10 tankers were deployed, with each unit traveling over three miles to fill and return, significantly increasing the time required to maintain water supply.
The fourth alarm was finally called off just after 7:00 PM.
Jeff Rudolph arrived at the scene with the box alarm companies and captured images of the house fully involved in flames. Later, Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro also arrived and will be sharing additional photos and a video of the incident.
