The report said that at around 17:00 on August 29, 2012, a gas explosion occurred in the Xiaojiawan coal mine in the west district of Zhengjin Industry and Trade Co., Ltd., Panzhihua City. It was verified that the number of people going down at the time of the accident was 154. There were 104 miners raising wells, and 3 of them died on the way to the hospital. From the evening of the 29th to 6 a.m. on the 30th, rescue workers rescued six survivors from the underground and found 16 dead miners. At present, there are 28 people trapped underground.

After the accident, Panzhihua City dispatched medical staff of 7 medical institutions to the scene for rescue. The Coal Workers’ General Hospital, Panzhihua Iron and Steel Workers General Hospital, Panzhihua City Central Hospital, and Panzhihua City Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine have treated 51 wounded people. 47 of them were mainly carbon monoxide poisoning, and 4 of the wounded were mainly burns, including the critically wounded. The Panzhihua City has mobilized seven professional rescue teams, nine medical rescue teams, coal mine workers and masses, and more than 500 people rushed to the scene to carry out emergency rescue and ground support work.

After receiving the accident report, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council, State Councilor and Secretary General of the State Council Ma Kai made important instructions.
