Shanghai Auto Show: Shaanxi Automobile Establishes China's First Heavy-duty New Energy Laboratory

The competing debut of new energy vehicles is a highlight of the current Shanghai Auto Show. At present, new energy vehicles are more concentrated in the field of passenger cars, but they are not as effective in the field of commercial vehicles. Shaanxi Automobile Group, which is in the first square array of China's heavy trucks, announced at the auto show on the 21st that it had established the first heavy-duty new energy laboratory in China.

Shaanxi Automobile's general manager Yuan Hongming said: "Heavy duty trucks are not synonymous with high energy consumption, and Shaanxi Automobile hopes to take this opportunity to open up a new round of innovation and energy self-owned heavy trucks."

Shaanxi Automobile Group stated that since 2005, the company has jointly established key transport universities such as Xi'an Jiaotong University and Chang'an University, and has taken the lead in the development of heavy-duty trucks using natural gas fuels. During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, Shaanxi Steam also undertook two major project topics of the National “863” Program for New Energy Commercial Vehicles, and successfully developed the CNG and LNG large horsepower heavy trucks, filling the gaps in domestic natural gas heavy truck products.

Yuan Hongming told reporters that after more than three years of trial and error and the operation of nearly 2,000 product vehicles on the market, the reliability of natural gas heavy trucks in engine power is assured. Furthermore, with the continuous construction of the “West-East Gas Pipeline” project and the gradual improvement of gas station network, natural gas heavy trucks will usher in the peak of development and application in the coming years. The goal of Shaanxi Auto is that by 2012, new energy products will account for more than 5% of the Group's heavy truck output, and its market share will remain first in the country.

Shaanxi Hongqi Chairman Fang Hongwei also read the first green declaration of the domestic heavy truck industry at the ceremony. Fang Hongwei said that although Shaanxi Automobile has achieved certain breakthroughs in the new energy heavy trucks, there is still a certain gap between China's new energy heavy trucks and the overall international level. It is not realistic for a single company to participate in competition. Shaanxi Automobile set up a heavy-duty new energy laboratory to unite two universities, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Chang’an University. In the future, it also hopes that companies with professional strength and social responsibility in the industry will work together to push China’s new energy heavy trucks to the top international level.
