To keep track of the child's progress, researchers at La Trobe University in Australia have developed a new test to help learners.
Dr. Adam Schembri, a linguist at La Trobe University, said that the test was designed specifically for children. He said: “If we let deaf children get in touch with sign language, then deafness will not be a problem. Although there are good studies among deaf children implanted with cochlear implants, many of them are still struggling. Can help them lay a solid foundation to help them better learn the language, whether it is spoken or written."
The Auslan assessment tool is based on the British version of sign language. Both are very similar. Due to differences in dialects, Australia has developed two test versions. One is a northern dialect test that applies to New South Wales and Queensland; the other is a southern dialect test that applies to other states.
