The first image shows Engine 48’s station on the far right, with a massive 5-11 fire burning just across the elevated tracks. The second photo is a close-up of what I believe is the very first snorkel basket that Bill Post mentioned a few weeks ago. This was a 3-11 alarm on November 2, 1959, at 1109 W. 63rd Street. It’s a rare and fascinating look at how early firefighters used the snorkel basket in action.
