Gu Bingfei, an equipment inspector from the equipment department of the cold rolling mill at Handan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., has successfully obtained a national invention patent for the acid-rolling line flying shear repair platform. This innovation was first applied during the annual maintenance of the "May 1st" project, marking a breakthrough in the flying shear inspection process. By overcoming the technical bottleneck previously dominated by foreign companies, the replacement and adjustment of the cutting blade have been simplified from a complex and risky high-skill task into a routine operation. The new method not only saves time and effort but also ensures high reliability and significant annual benefits, with an estimated economic impact of around 1.4 million yuan. The flying shear is a critical component in the pickling and cold rolling combined production line, responsible for cutting steel strips online to allow for proper winding. Its normal operation directly affects the overall efficiency of the production line. Due to its importance and the proprietary nature of foreign technology, the flying shear has long been one of the few key pieces of equipment fully supported by foreign suppliers. One of the main challenges lies in the cutting edge, which is arranged in an arc on the drum. When the strip is cut, the shearing begins from the center and gradually moves toward both sides. The initial gap between the cutting edges is only 0.03 mm, making it extremely difficult to accurately locate the contact point and perform precise measurements during blade replacement. Gu Bingfei's invention of the flying shear inspection platform and the associated blade adjustment process addresses these longstanding issues. It enables precise control over the bite point position and accurate measurement along the cutting edge’s length. It also eliminates the influence of gear backlash between the upper and lower drums on the blade clearance. Additionally, the system simplifies the process of replacing and adjusting the blades, reducing the risk of damage caused by misalignment. As a result, the workload is significantly reduced, work efficiency is improved, and maintenance time is shortened, bringing substantial operational benefits to the company.
