Flying shears are one of the critical components in the pickling and cold rolling combined production line. They are responsible for cutting the steel strips online to allow proper winding of the finished products. The normal operation of the flying shears directly affects the overall efficiency of the production line. Due to its importance and the secrecy surrounding foreign technology, the flying shear is among the few pieces of equipment that are entirely supported by foreign suppliers. The weak point of the flying shear lies in the cutting edge. Because the cutting edge is arranged in an arc on the drum, when the strip is cut, the shearing starts from the center and gradually moves outward. The initial gap between the cutting edges is only 0.03 mm, making it extremely challenging to accurately locate the biting point and measure the clearance during blade replacement. Gu Bingfei's newly developed flying shear inspection platform, along with the corresponding blade adjustment process, effectively addresses the limitations of traditional methods used in large steel mills in Germany. First, it allows for precise and convenient control of the biting point position and accurate measurement along the length of the cutting edge. Second, it eliminates the impact of gear backlash between the upper and lower drums on the blade clearance. Third, it makes the blade replacement and adjustment easier, significantly reducing the risk of damage between the upper and lower blades. This innovation reduces labor intensity, improves work efficiency, and shortens maintenance time, bringing substantial benefits to the production process.
