Such coatings are commonly used as linings for potable water tanks and pipes where non-solvent materials are necessary. For potable water use, the surface must meet a minimum standard of grit blasting (Sa 2½), with a surface profile corresponding to the ISO comparator rough medium (G) profile. Prior to blasting, oil and grease should be removed using high-pressure fresh water and appropriate detergents. Salt and contaminants must also be eliminated. After sandblasting, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned of abrasives and dust. On steel surfaces exposed to saltwater, additional steps such as dry blasting, high-pressure rinsing, drying, and re-blasting may be required. Alternatively, water jetting can be employed if the surface already meets the desired profile. Application should follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, utilizing dual-feed hot airless spray equipment to avoid sags and runs while ensuring adequate thickness in hard-to-reach areas.
