From what Tim Olk just shared with me:
I'm standing here in Frankfort, Illinois, looking at a pretty intense house fire that broke out earlier today. It's one of those situations where the conditions were really working against us—thick fog everywhere and no hydrants nearby. To make matters worse, there was another box alarm fire going on in the next town over, so we had to split our resources.
The structure involved is a 2 1/2 story wooden frame building, and it looks like the fire started on the first floor. The flames were massive when we arrived, spreading quickly through the lower levels. Given the circumstances, we decided to focus on defensive operations right away. We couldn't risk sending firefighters inside due to how rapidly the fire was moving.
The photos you're seeing were taken moments after we got the situation under control. Even though we managed to contain the blaze before it could fully engulf the entire house, it's still a tough situation for the family who lived here. The smoke damage alone is extensive, not to mention the water damage from all the firefighting efforts.
I've been talking to some of the neighbors, and they said the homeowner mentioned they'd recently returned from a trip. It seems like everything happened very quickly after they left. I'll keep you updated as more details come in about the cause of the fire and any further developments.
Here’s hoping the family can recover soon. It's always heartbreaking to see homes go up in flames, especially when it happens so unexpectedly.
[Attached are several images showing different angles of the scene, including the heavy smoke and flames as well as the aftermath once the fire was brought under control.]
