Larry Shapiro sent over these details about an incident involving a significant rubbish fire in Wheeling this afternoon:
According to Shapiro, the fire broke out around 5:30 PM at 1786 W. Hintz Road, where a shopping center is currently being demolished. The intense smoke could be seen from quite a distance. Firefighters from Engine 23 were quick to respond, using their deck gun to tackle the blaze. Additionally, Engine 42 joined the effort by deploying their water supply through another deck gun positioned from a different angle.
I've attached some photos below taken by Shapiro that capture the intensity of the firefighting operation. You can see firefighters skillfully operating the deck guns, the thick plumes of black smoke, and even a glimpse of a firefighter opening a hydrant to aid in suppression efforts.
