Chemical companies want to recycle resources

Interview with Zhang Zhongzheng, a member of the National People's Congress and Chairman of Shandong Binhua Group Zhang Zhongzheng, a National People’s Congress deputy and chairman of Shandong Binhua Group, has spent 40 years in the chemical industry. Over the past four decades, he has witnessed the transformation of a small chlor-alkali plant into a large-scale integrated chemical enterprise that covers petrochemicals, fine chemicals, chlor-alkali, thermoelectricity, and port storage. His experience has given him deep insights into energy and chemical production. According to Zhang, modern chemical companies must rely on new technologies, advanced equipment, and the development of a circular economy to remain sustainable. This approach helps minimize resource consumption, reduce pollution, and enhance efficiency. He emphasized that enterprises should take the lead in energy conservation and emission reduction, especially in the chemical sector. In the early days of reform and opening up, companies focused primarily on profit maximization and tax contributions. Social responsibilities like energy saving and emission reduction were not widely recognized. However, as society has evolved, the need for sustainable development has become more pressing. Companies now must balance economic growth with environmental protection, as resource prices have risen sharply and the government has implemented stricter regulations on pollution. Moreover, many chemical plants originally located in suburban areas are now within or near urban centers due to city expansion. This change has increased public expectations for cleaner operations and better environmental performance. To maximize resource efficiency while minimizing pollution, Zhang advocates for full recycling of materials, waste, and by-products within the company. He describes this as “netting the food,” ensuring that nothing is wasted. He also highlights the importance of circular economy practices, such as using waste from one process as raw material for another. For example, in a chlor-alkali plant, hydrogen chloride can be refined for use in vinyl chloride production, reducing chlorine usage and bringing both economic and environmental benefits. Similarly, waste sludge from vinyl chloride plants can be repurposed in other processes, replacing traditional materials and reducing costs. Wastewater and waste gas recycling, along with cogeneration projects, are also key strategies for achieving sustainability. Continuous technological upgrades are essential for energy efficiency and environmental protection. Zhang stressed the need to replace outdated equipment, such as diaphragm cells in caustic soda production, with more efficient ion-exchange membrane technology, which could significantly reduce national energy consumption. Finally, Zhang believes that improving workforce quality and implementing strong management systems are crucial for the success of circular economy initiatives. Without skilled personnel and clear guidelines, even the best technology may not deliver the desired results. In short, the path forward for the chemical industry lies in innovation, integration, and a commitment to sustainability.

Blister Turnover Box

Blister turnover boxes, also known as vacuum blister turnover boxes, are plastic turnover containers made using the plastic blister molding process. Compared with traditional injection-molded turnover boxes, the blister process does not require a complex mold-closing and injection process, making it more suitable for producing boxes with large areas, thin walls, and relatively regular structures. At the same time, it has obvious advantages in raw material utilization and small-batch customization costs, which also makes blister turnover boxes more flexible in diverse demand scenarios.

Core advantages of blister turnover boxes:

(1) Lightweight design, reducing handling costsBlister turnover boxes adopt a thin-wall molding process.
On the premise of ensuring strength, the weight of the box is much lower than that of metal boxes or wooden boxes of the same specification. For example, a PP blister Turnover Box with an outer diameter of 600×400×300mm usually weighs only 1.5-2kg, while a wooden turnover box of the same size weighs about 5-8kg, and a metal turnover box can even reach more than 10kg. The lightweight feature not only reduces the labor intensity of manual handling but also reduces the load during transportation, indirectly lowering logistics and transportation costs.

(2) High strength and durability, extending service life
Although the walls of blister turnover boxes are thin, through optimized mold design and the selection of high-strength plastic materials, their impact resistance and load-bearing capacity can meet industrial-grade usage requirements. Taking the common PP blister turnover box as an example, its static stacking load-bearing capacity at room temperature can reach 30-50kg (that is, 3-5 empty boxes of the same specification can be stacked on top), and it can bear 15-20kg of materials during dynamic handling. Under normal use, the service life can reach 3-5 years, which is much longer than that of wooden turnover boxes (usually 1-2 years), reducing the cost of frequent replacement of turnover boxes.

(3) Corrosion resistance, easy to clean, adapting to multi-environment needs
The plastic material itself has good chemical corrosion resistance. Blister turnover boxes can withstand the erosion of weak acids, weak alkalis, and common organic solvents. Unlike wooden boxes, which are prone to moisture and mildew, and metal boxes, which are prone to rust, they are suitable for special environments such as chemical industry, electroplating, and food processing. At the same time, the surface of the box is smooth and seamless, not easy to retain stains, and can be cleaned by simply wiping with water or neutral detergent, meeting the hygiene standards of food, pharmaceutical and other industries.

(4) High degree of customization, meeting personalized needs
The flexibility of the blister process makes the customization threshold of turnover boxes low. Enterprises can customize exclusive box sizes, structures (such as whether to have partitions, whether to add rollers), colors (which can be adjusted through color masterbatches to facilitate the distinction of different materials) according to their own material size, weight, storage environment and other needs. They can even print corporate logos, warning signs and other information on the surface of the box to improve brand recognition and management efficiency. In addition, for small-batch customization, the mold cost of the blister process is much lower than that of injection molds, reducing the customization cost for small and medium-sized enterprises.

(5) Environmentally friendly and recyclable, in line with the trend of green development
The plastic materials such as PP and PE used in blister turnover boxes are all recyclable materials. After the end of their service life, they can be recycled and reused by professional institutions to make other plastic products, reducing resource waste and environmental pollution. At the same time, compared with disposable cartons or plastic bags, blister turnover boxes can be reused hundreds of times, greatly reducing the generation of packaging waste, which is in line with the development needs of enterprises' green production and low-carbon operation under the current "double carbon" goal.

Application scenarios of blister turnover boxes:

(1) Electronics and electrical industry
(2) Pharmaceutical industry
(3) Auto parts industry
(4) E-commerce and logistics distribution industry
(5) Food processing industry
