On January 7, a reporter learned that the Torch High-Tech Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology has recently approved the establishment of the National Torch Plan Yantai Auto Parts Industry Base within the Fushan High-Tech Industrial Park in Yantai City. This decision marks a significant milestone for the region's auto parts sector.
In November 2007, a team of experts from the Torch Center, along with officials from provincial and municipal authorities, conducted an on-site inspection and evaluation of the Fushan District. Based on the "National Torch Program Characteristic Industrial Base Certification Conditions and Measures (Trial)," the expert panel reviewed the site and gave their approval for the establishment of the base.
The expert group found that Yantai has effectively leveraged the Torch Program to drive the growth of high-tech industries. The auto parts industry base has already laid a strong foundation, with comprehensive functions, a wide range of products, and a complete system covering research, development, production, distribution, and sales.
According to statistics, Yantai currently hosts 305 auto parts companies, making it a major hub for auto parts in Shandong Province. These companies employ over 100,000 people, generating annual sales revenue of 24.5 billion yuan, with exports reaching approximately 900 million U.S. dollars. This accounts for about 5% of the city’s industrial output. In 2006, the base achieved sales of 6.5 billion yuan and exported 350 million U.S. dollars, demonstrating its growing role as a cluster of auto parts enterprises.
Following the review, four companies—Yantai Zhenghai Xingyuan Auto Interior Decoration Co., Ltd., Shandong SAIC Transmission Co., Ltd., Yantai Fuer Precision Machinery Co., Ltd., and Yantai Taili Automobile Mold Manufacturing Co., Ltd.—have been officially included in the industrial base. They have been recognized as the first batch of key enterprises, signaling the start of a more structured and coordinated development of the local auto parts industry.
This new base is expected to further enhance Yantai’s position as a leading center for automotive components, promoting innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth in the sector.
