Wuhan's 800,000-ton ethylene plant will exceed 70%

At the end of 2007, the Wuhan 800,000-ton/year ethylene project was officially started construction. The person in charge of Sinopec recently disclosed that the localization rate of equipment for the 800,000-ton ethylene project in Wuhan will reach 90% on the basis of the number of sets, and will exceed 70% on the basis of the investment amount.

The project's newly-built production facility has a total of 1,588 process equipment, including 1,435 sets of domestic equipment and 153 sets of imports. The reason why these 153 sets of equipment cannot be made domestically is mainly due to the complexity of equipment internals and the possession of patents abroad; domestic products also lack relevant experience; domestic raw materials and supporting materials for manufacturing equipment are not available, or the types and specifications of materials are not complete, and the quality is not stable.

At present, ethylene "three machines" at the heart of the million-ton ethylene plant has been determined to rely on Zhenhai, Tianjin, and Fushun million tons of ethylene projects, with Shenyang Blower (Group) Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Steam Turbine Co., Ltd. as the main development units. The current development work is progressing smoothly.

The total investment of the Wuhan ethylene project is 14.67 billion yuan. There are 8 sets of newly-built production facilities, namely 800,000 tons/year ethylene cracker, 500,000 tons/year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit and 120,000 tons/year butadiene extraction unit. , 400,000 tons/year aromatics extraction unit, 300,000 tons/year HDPE unit, 300,000 tons/year LLDPE unit, 60,000 tons/year ethylene oxide and 300,000 tons/year ethylene glycol unit, 400,000 tons /year polypropylene device. This project is the only large-scale petrochemical project that the country has laid out in the central region during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period and is expected to be completed and put into production in 2010. In the procurement of equipment, the project's electrical equipment will be mainly domestic, and instrumentation equipment will in principle be purchased through open bidding.
