China began to engage in the research of degradable materials since the 1980s, but some of the earliest developed degradation materials are not ideal, and some of them have poor performance and degradation performance, and some are too costly to be industrialized, which greatly limits their application. range. However, according to a nation-wide survey conducted by the Green Packaging Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, the research and development of domestic biodegradable plastics has made great progress in recent years. Among them, the full biodegradable plastic PBS developed by the National Engineering Plastics Center of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has seen rapid industrialization and has been selected as the material of disposable tableware for the Beijing Olympic Games. According to conservative estimates, the demand for PBS plastics in the Chinese market alone reaches 500,000 tons/year, which is a promising prospect.
According to experts, PBS as a plastic product has multiple advantages: its plastic mechanical properties close to PP and ABS plastics; good heat resistance and stability, heat distortion temperature close to 100 °C, modified use temperature close to 100 °C; good degradation performance, Fully biodegradable in soil, seawater and compost, buried in the garbage heap can be fully degraded in 3 months; plastic bags made of PBS, disposable tableware and other products, is the only heat-resistant 100 °C and waterproof Anti-oil biodegradable plastic products; excellent processing performance, can be all kinds of molding processing in the current general-purpose processing equipment, the traditional plastic bag manufacturers will no need industrial restructuring. In addition, the equipment needed to synthesize PBS can be transformed into existing PET polyester production equipment, and the fixed investment is small, which is a better investment option for many domestic small polyester production plants.
The main raw material of PBS is butanediol succinate, which can be used either in the petrochemical route or bio-fermentation method. Through copolymerization modification and blending of calcium carbonate, starch and other modifications, a series of plastic products can be produced. The prices of products are already approaching the level of traditional plastics, and there is room for further cost reduction as technology advances in the future.
At present, domestic PBS has opened up the bottleneck of commercialization and industrialization. Yangzhou Lanzhou Grace Polymer Materials Co., Ltd. invested 50 million yuan to build a 20,000-ton/year PBS production line, which was put into operation in the first half of 2007, making China the third country after Japan and the United States to achieve PBS industrial production, and The PBS production line ranks first in the world. Hangzhou Xinfu Pharmaceutical has established a 20,000-ton/year PBS production line in two phases. One phase of the 3,000-ton/year PBS integrated process and complete production line project has completed the installation and commissioning of production equipment at the end of 2007. It is currently in the trial production phase. Officially put into operation. In terms of applications, the biodegradable plastics industry in China has developed rapidly in recent years. After experiencing the pain of the initial stage of industrial development, related manufacturers have begun to enter the profit stage. At present, the total output of various biodegradable plastics including PBS, PLA, and PHA is no more than tens of thousands of tons, and the shortage of raw materials will inevitably affect downstream development and application. For the PBS biodegradable plastics that are widely regarded by the industry, the plastics industry pays great attention and actively cooperates with them. Jiangsu, Shanghai and other places have promoted the use of PBS plastic bags. Some cities have already used PBS plastic bags in circulation in the market. Shanghai Shenhua Group, Fujian Hengan Group and other companies have opened up the application and promotion of PBS in disposable packaging products, hygiene products, and tableware. At present, Shanghai Shenhua Group's PBS products are already on the market, and modified materials and extruded sheets have been exported to South Korea in small quantities. It is reported that Shanghai Shenhua Group has signed a long-term purchase contract with Yangzhou Gurse Gray Polymer Materials Co., Ltd., thus forming a complete industrial chain of resin, modification and products.
