Mercury as a global pollutant has a high degree of volatility, diffusivity, and bioaccumulation. Currently, coal combustion is the largest source of man-made mercury emissions. The total amount of mercury released into the atmosphere each year is 5,000 tons, of which 4,000 tons is an artificial result. 80% of mercury is emitted to the atmosphere in the form of steam, which is mainly caused by the combustion of fossil fuels. Therefore, it is very important to study the monitoring technology of mercury emitted from coal-fired power plants and the verification of monitoring instruments.

In this R&D project, the technicians established the ionized mercury standard gas generating device, which can generate substances for calibrating ionized mercury in coal-fired flue gas, thereby verifying the measurement accuracy of the coal-fired flue gas mercury online monitor. The coal-fired flue gas mercury on-line monitor can be used to monitor the total amount of mercury emitted from the coal-fired power plant. The accuracy of the measurement results is related to the effectiveness of environmental protection management work. Therefore, the online monitoring of coal-fired flue gas mercury in coal-fired power plants is improved. The accuracy of the instrument's data and the automation of metrology verification are of great significance.

The device can verify the domestic and imported mercury on-line monitor used in most of the coal-fired power plants. The application of the project results can provide powerful technical support for the accuracy and reliability of the measurement data of coal-fired flue gas mercury on-line monitoring instruments.
