It was just after 3 AM when the Prospect Heights Fire and Police Departments got a call about a serious traffic accident on Camp McDonald Road near Maple, approximately 50 yards east of Station 9. When emergency responders arrived, they found a single-car incident involving four young people. The vehicle seemed to lose control while traveling eastbound, veered off the road, hit a tree, and crashed into a mailbox in one yard before colliding with another tree in the neighboring yard. The force of the crash split the car into two pieces before it could reach the front bedrooms of the house. Tragically, three of the four occupants were thrown from the vehicle. All four teens were severely injured, but unfortunately, three didn't survive, while the fourth was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The police called in the accident recovery team, who worked at the scene for several hours. It took them 12 long hours to finally remove the wreckage from the area. You can read more about it in the Chicago Tribune article HERE, and the Daily Herald also covered the story HERE.
Larry Shapiro headed to the scene this afternoon as the vehicle was being towed away. He managed to capture some powerful images of the aftermath.
In one image, you can see the large tree in the front yard that likely prevented the house from sustaining even more damage. A bedroom is located close to where the impact occurred, making the tree's role crucial. The rear part of the car is visible on the far right, while the front section rests near the base of the flagpole.
Another shot shows the severe damage the car sustained during the collision. The back end of the vehicle was completely torn apart, with debris scattered across the lawn.
A final image captures the moment when Fries Automotive used a rotator wrecker to lift the front portion of the car out of the yard and transfer it onto a flatbed for removal.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of safety measures. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating event.
