House fire in Chicago 8-17-13

At 17:02, the fire was already out when I arrived. Even though it had been extinguished before I got there, I wanted to submit this report because it was a pretty unusual incident. The house in question was a vacant 2.5-story frame located in the middle of the 6900 block of South Winchester. The street has a cul-de-sac at its southern end. What made this event stand out was that there was a block party happening at the time! Hundreds of people were grilling, dancing, and kids were running around the street. Then, without warning, the house caught fire and was fully involved before any units could respond. No one on the scene reported seeing anything suspicious. One witness just said that the home was fine one minute and then completely on fire the next. Engine 101 used their deck gun to knock down the flames and prevent it from spreading further. I was about two miles away when Engine 101 called in, and by the time I arrived, there wasnâ€™t much left to see. In addition to Engine 101, Engine 129 and Truck 50 were also on scene, along with Truck 41.
