House fire in Chicago 8-17-13

At 17:02, the fire was already out when I arrived. Still, I wanted to submit this report because it turned out to be a pretty unusual call. The structure was a vacant two-and-a-half-story frame house located in the middle of the 6900 block of South Winchester. The street ends in a cul-de-sac at its southern end. What made this even stranger was that there was a block party happening right around the time the fire started! Hundreds of people were grilling, dancing, and kids were running up and down the street. Then, without warning, the house just caught fire and was fully involved before any units could respond. No one on the scene reported anything out of the ordinary. One witness simply said that the home was fine one minute, and the next, it was completely on fire. Engine 101 used their deck gun to knock it down and prevent it from spreading further. I was about two miles away when they called in, and by the time I got there, there wasnâ€™t much left to see. Other companies on scene included Engine 129 and Truck 50, along with Truck 41.
