The first chemical industry circulation summit forum organized and summarized the status quo of the competitiveness of three industries in China's chemical circulation industry

From June 6th to 7th, the first Chemical Circulation Development Summit Forum took place in Beijing, bringing together management personnel, economic experts, and representatives from chemical circulation enterprises. This event marked a significant step in addressing the challenges and opportunities within China's chemical industry. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the total current value of China’s chemical products in 2004 reached 1.26 trillion yuan, accounting for roughly 10% of the country's GDP. As such, the chemical market is widely recognized as the largest in China. The need to evaluate and summarize the competitiveness of the chemical trading market, chemical wharves, and storage industries has become increasingly urgent among both industry insiders and external stakeholders. Yang Huaxiong, Director of the Department of Water and Transportation under the Ministry of Transport, highlighted that there are currently around 300 terminals dedicated to crude oil, refined oil, liquefied gas, and bulk chemicals along China’s coast, making up about 8% of all berths. These terminals have a combined handling capacity exceeding 200 million tons, or 10% of the total coastal capacity. Looking ahead, the government plans to enhance water transportation infrastructure in key regions including the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and South China, with a focus on Shanghai and Dalian. In the Bohai Rim, new chemical berths ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 tons will be constructed in Dalian, Qingdao, and Caofeidian. In the Yangtze River Delta, 250,000-ton chemical quays and pipelines will be developed, gradually replacing crude oil transport by pipeline. Meanwhile, the Pearl River Delta will prioritize building chemical docks with capacities between 150,000 to 300,000 tons and 80,000 to 150,000 tons in cities like Huizhou, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan. During the forum, participants engaged in detailed discussions on strategies to enhance the competitiveness of the chemical distribution sector. Additionally, the release of three reports—*China Chemical Market Competitiveness Evaluation*, *China Liquid Chemical Terminal Competitiveness Evaluation*, and *China’s Liquid Chemical Storage Competitiveness Evaluation*—was announced for 2005. These assessments will cover 23 chemical markets, 15 chemical terminals, and 25 chemical storage companies across the country. The forum was organized by China Chemical News, and it served as an important platform for dialogue and collaboration among industry leaders.
