2-Alarm house fire in Long Grove 9-16-16

It was Larry Shapiro who sent this over: Late Friday night (September 16, 2016), just after 9:30 PM, the Long Grove Fire Protection District was called out along with mutual aid companies to an area near Old McHenry Road and Cuba Road. From what I gathered, they were responding to reports of a house fire. Given its proximity to the fire station, the Long Grove units arrived on the scene within minutes. The address they were heading to was a run-down vacant house on Shagbark Lane, and it was already heavily ablaze when they got there. The initial dispatch, labeled as Code 3, was quickly escalated to a Code 4 upon confirmation of an active fire. This brought nine units to the scene on the first dispatch, including three tankers. As the situation unfolded, an additional 12 units were requested on the Code 4, which included five tenders, along with several chief officers. The Long Grove Squad 55 and Tanker 55 worked tirelessly, using up 4,000 gallons of water. Their efforts were supported by the Wauconda tanker, which added another 3,200 gallons, and Lake Zurich Engine 4, which contributed 1,000 gallons. A tanker shuttle operation was initiated to ensure a continuous water supply. As the fire intensified, a Box Alarm and then a Second Alarm specifically for tenders only were called in, bringing even more resources to the firefighting effort. [Insert multiple images showing the intense flames consuming the vacant house, firefighters battling the blaze with hoses, and emergency vehicles strategically placed around the scene.] One thing that stood out was how well-coordinated the response was. You could see the teamwork between different departments, like the Grayslake FD and Elk Grove Township FD, both of whom were seen dumping water into portable dump tanks to support the firefighting efforts. [Insert images showing portable dump tanks being filled and emptied by various fire trucks.] The entire operation was a testament to the dedication and skill of these firefighters who worked through the night to control the situation. Additional images from the scene can be viewed at shapirophotography.net, and a detailed video recap will be posted soon. Writing this update feels surreal because it's hard to put into words the scale of destruction caused by such fires. But seeing the firefighters' determination gives hope that situations like this can be managed effectively.
