From January to November, China's automotive industry continued its robust growth, with both production and sales reaching significant levels. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, total automobile production reached 8,049,400 units, while sales amounted to 7,951,200 units. This represents a year-on-year increase of 22.25% in production and 23.19% in sales. The growth was particularly strong in passenger cars, which saw production rise by 21.64% to 5,758,600 units and sales increase by 22.82% to 5,662,100 units. Commercial vehicles also showed strong performance, with production up 23.83% to 2,302,800 units and sales increasing by 24.12% to 2,829,100 units.
In November, the automotive sector experienced even stronger momentum compared to the previous month. Production for the month stood at 836,800 units, marking a 17.36% increase from October and a 19.33% rise compared to the same period last year. Sales totaled 800,900 units, reflecting a 15.69% monthly increase and a 16.25% annual growth. Passenger car production reached 616,300 units, up 18.02% from the prior month and 21.07% year-on-year, while sales rose to 582,700 units, an increase of 17.27% month-over-month and 16.63% year-on-year. Commercial vehicle production was 220,500 units, a 15.55% increase from October and 14.71% higher than the same period last year. Sales of commercial vehicles reached 218,200 units, up 11.68% from the previous month and 15.26% from the previous year.
SUVs continued to lead the market, with cumulative production and sales from January to November reaching 3,220,000 and 3,178,900 units respectively, showing a massive year-on-year growth of 56.22% and 55.56%. In contrast, cross-platform passenger cars saw only modest growth, with sales rising by 6.93% and 8.85% respectively. In November, SUVs saw a sharp increase in both production and sales, with output jumping 20.93% from the previous month and 92.03% year-on-year, while sales rose 17.50% month-over-month and 76.37% annually.
Among commercial vehicles, bus production and sales were the most notable in November. Passenger buses saw a staggering 48.82% increase in production and 39.53% in sales compared to October, with year-on-year growth of 53.17% and 70.05% respectively. Trucks also showed solid gains, with production up 14.93% and sales rising 6.54% from the previous month, and 7.48% and 5.40% year-on-year. Semi-trailer tractors, despite a slight decline in production, still managed to grow by 12.69% month-over-month and 38.32% year-on-year.
GAC maintained the highest growth rate among major manufacturers, with its cumulative sales leading the industry. From January to November, the top ten automakers collectively sold 6,633,300 units, accounting for 83% of total auto sales. In November alone, these companies sold 672,900 units, making up 84% of total sales. Among the top passenger car brands, SAIC-GM-Wuling, FAW-Volkswagen, and Shanghai GM led the market, with combined sales of 3.29 million units, representing 58% of total passenger car sales.
For commercial vehicles, Beiqi Foton, Dongfeng, and FAW remained the top sellers, with a combined total of 1,543,500 units sold from January to November, accounting for 67% of the segment’s total sales. In November, these companies again dominated the market, selling 147,100 commercial vehicles, or 67% of the total. Overall, the Chinese automotive industry continues to show strong momentum, driven by both domestic demand and export growth.
