From January to November, China's automotive industry continued its strong recovery, with both production and sales reaching significant levels. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, total automobile production reached 8,049,400 units, while sales totaled 7,951,200 units—showing year-on-year growth of 22.25% and 23.19%, respectively. This marks a substantial increase compared to the same period last year, with production up by 777,700 units and sales rising by 735,200 units. Within this overall growth, passenger car production and sales were 5,758,600 and 5,662,100 units, increasing by 21.64% and 22.82% year-on-year. In November, the automotive market experienced a sharp improvement compared to the previous month. Production reached 836,800 units, up 17.36% from October and 19.33% year-on-year. Sales totaled 800,900 units, showing a 15.69% rise from the prior month and a 16.25% increase from the same period in 2022. Passenger cars led the way, with production hitting 616,300 units (up 18.02% monthly and 21.07% annually) and sales reaching 582,700 units (up 17.27% monthly and 16.63% annually). SUVs also performed strongly, with production at 38,900 units and sales at 36,300 units, reflecting a massive jump of 92.03% and 76.37% year-on-year. MPVs and cross-type passenger cars showed more moderate growth, but still outperformed many other segments. Notably, SUVs recorded the highest growth rate among all vehicle types, with production and sales up 56.22% and 55.56% year-on-year from January to November. Looking at commercial vehicles, bus production and sales saw the most significant growth in November. While semi-trailer tractors saw a slight decline in output, other commercial vehicle categories showed robust gains. Passenger car production and sales surged by 48.82% and 39.53% from October, with year-on-year increases of 53.17% and 70.05%. Non-integrated trucks also saw strong growth, with production and sales rising by 36% and 13.22% from the previous month, and 19.24% and 25.70% year-on-year. Among major automakers, Guangzhou Automobile Company (GAC) maintained the highest growth rate in cumulative sales. From January to November, GAC's sales accounted for a large share of the market, outperforming several other top manufacturers. The top ten auto companies collectively sold 6,633,300 units, representing 83% of total automobile sales in the country. In terms of passenger car brands, SAIC-GM-Wuling, FAW-Volkswagen, and Shanghai GM dominated the rankings, with strong performances across the board. In November, FAW-Volkswagen led in sales, followed closely by Shanghai GM and Shanghai Volkswagen. Overall, the top ten passenger car manufacturers accounted for 58% of total passenger car sales. For commercial vehicles, Beiqi Foton, Dongfeng, and FAW remained the leading sellers. Despite some slower growth from Jiangling and Nanjing Auto, heavy truck manufacturers like Shaanxi Auto saw notable increases. In November, the top ten commercial vehicle companies sold 147,100 units, making up 67% of the total commercial vehicle market. As the automotive sector continues to expand, it’s clear that demand remains strong across various vehicle types, especially in the SUV and commercial vehicle segments. With steady growth in both production and sales, the Chinese auto market is proving resilient and dynamic in the face of global economic challenges.
